Sarah's Musical Journey

Sarah has been playing the flute for over 20 years, and is a veteran teacher who is passionate about helping each student reach their individual musical goals.

Sarah holds a Master of Music degree in Music Education with a Kodaly Emphasis from Colorado State University. She completed her undergraduate studies at Illinois Wesleyan University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. There, she was the principal flautist in the Civic Orchestra and Wind Ensemble for three years, and also performed in numerous opera pit orchestras, woodwind quintets, and other small ensembles.

Sarah has over a decade of experience as a music educator, and has taught in both one-on-one and classroom settings. She taught for two years in her home state of Illinois before moving to Colorado. Since 2014, Sarah has been a K-5 general music teacher with Aurora Public Schools. At school and in private lessons, she strives to teach not only the essential elements of music and the mechanics of playing an instrument, but also life skills such as perseverance and problem-solving skills. She tailors her approach to match each student's learning style, personality, and goals, so they have a positive and successful experience. She is a teacher at heart, and loves nothing more than seeing her students experience joy through music making.

When she isn't teaching, Sarah currently plays her flute/piccolo as a member of the Denver Rock Orchestra.

Joy should be at the heart of music lessons.
