Dianne's Musical Journey
Dianne began learning how to play the piano at the age of 3, with her musically talented father as her first teacher. At age 4, after attending a funeral service, she requested to be taught how to play the hymn that was sung in church. Her Kindergarten teacher then recognized her natural talent and sense of rhythm, and recommended that she start formal lessons.
By age 7, Dianne was enrolled at the St. Louis Institute of Music and went on to take 11 years of private piano and theory lessons from a very talented classical piano teacher, who was a graduate of the institute. Dianne became a classical concert pianist at a very young age, performing several concerts per year and performing all of her pieces from memory. She was a member of Pi Mu, a national honor society for musicians. She also played her classical pieces for judges and recorded two records, which won her gold medals in school. Dianne continued her education at John Brown University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She also earned multiple teaching certificates, including several in Special Education.
Dianne has taught a variety of subjects in grades K-12, as well as trade and technical education, and has been a private music instructor for adults and children of all ages for many years. She teaches from a variety of books and songs and her students learn to read music and gain a foundation in music theory. She has helped her students overcome a variety of challenges along their musical journeys, and her goal is to teach her students to eventually be able to play for their own enjoyment. She looks forward to sharing the gift of music with you or your child.
