Benjamin's Musical Journey

Benjamin is a classically trained pianist. He started taking lessons at age 5 at the Peabody Preparatory in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated cum laude from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. He is grateful for the instruction and mentorship of his teachers Hillary Kruh, Nick Rosen, and, of course, Dr. Geoffrey Haydon.

Benjamin has taught students of all ages, from 3-year-olds to adults. His teaching style combines rigor and fun; he likes to be formal and thorough, but he also keep the lessons enjoyable. The goal is technique on the instrument and the ability to read music and understand music theory. For his youngest students, he uses the My First Piano Adventures books. Older beginners can start with the basic or accelerated courses from Piano Adventures. This curriculum offers students a way to gradually acquire a strong technique and understanding of music and exposes them to a wide range of styles. Teaching children has always been a strength for Benjamin. He is patient, understanding, and thoughtful about different learning styles, and he values the importance of music in a happy life. He loves teaching piano to students, young and not so young, beginning and experienced.

Since 2012, Benjamin has lived in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. When he isn't teaching, Benjamin enjoys performing at small venues around the Atlanta area. He is also continuing his postgraduate piano studies at Georgia State in the Master of Music program with a Piano Pedagogy Concentration, and will graduate next spring.

I believe that music is an important piece of living a happy life.
