Jackie's Musical Journey

Jackie began her music career at the age of 9, when she started learning how to play the violin. She added trumpet and piano to her repertoire the next year, and then clarinet the year after that. She wanted to learn how to play all the instruments, and ultimately decided that the teaching of music was something she wanted to dedicate her life to.

While attending Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Jackie's primary instrument was trumpet, but she studied violin and piano at the collegiate level as well. Through her training as a music major, she learned to play the trombone, french horn, euphonium, clarinet, flute, viola, and cello, and she now teaches private lessons on each of these instruments.

Jackie is an accomplished educator, musician, conductor and administrator. She has extensive professional experience and has taught at private schools within Wake County, starting band and string programs, as well as having been the Director of Instrumental Music at Colonial Baptist church. Her students consistently sit first chair in their class and have passed auditions for the Triangle Youth Orchestras, Triangle Youth Jazz, UNCG Honors Band, All District Band, and All State Band!

Jackie's teaching philosophy is simple: everyone should be exposed to music and have a basic understanding of it. The teacher must strive to meet the student where they are in regards to their learning style and level. The teacher needs to encourage and challenge, while fostering a feeling of accomplishment and confidence. The discipline and skills required to play an instrument will be used throughout life. Jackie's lessons are designed to develop each individual student into a well-rounded musician by focusing not only on learning songs and practicing technical exercises, but also on teaching music theory, history, sightreading, and general musicianship.

I strive to build confidence in my students through patience, kindness, and encouragement, and by pointing out their accomplishments.
