Stephen King is a multi-instrumentalist with 30 years of musical performance experience in a wide variety of genres; from classical to heavy metal and everything in between. He began teaching after graduating from the Atlanta Institute of Music and Media in 2010; Stephen also has degrees in business administration and cybersecurity. He has performed solo and with many groups including Blackwater Creek, The Waves and Fortress. Stephen has been with Music Authority for over a year and teaches classes in: Guitar, Drums, Bass, Ukelele and Piano.
He began playing music at the age of five; his parents had placed both Stephen and his brother in piano lessons at a very young age. Steve was given his first guitar at the age of twelve. After a few lessons, he began teaching himself his favorite heavy metal songs by ear, and within a year’s time he was playing and writing songs in rock bands with other students from school.
Stephen continued playing music throughout his high school years, and after graduating, he began attending the Atlanta Institute of Music in Duluth. It was here that he broadened his musical horizons under the mentorship of guitarists such as Bill Hart, Carl Culpepper, Trey Wright, Nite Driscoll, and pianist Randy Hoexter.
After graduating from AIM with honors, Stephen began teaching at the Rock n’ Blues Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida. After a few months, he returned to Atlanta and shifted his focus to live performance, playing with several groups of different musical styles from country to heavy metal to reggae and everything in between. He has performed at notable venues including The Masquerade, Wild Bill’s, Atlanta Motor Speedway, and The Georgia International Convention Center. He also began teaching private music lessons and found that he enjoyed being able to provide individualized, one-on-one instruction to best accommodate each student's unique needs. Steve currently teaches guitar lessons to students of all skill levels, as well as bass, drum, and piano lessons to beginners of all ages.
