Alabama Music Hall of Fame keyboardist Kenny Kirby was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and began playing piano and organ at the young age of 7. After formal private study with his mentor/teacher, the late Christine McPherson, he turned professional at age 15. Kenny matriculated at The University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB), earning his Associate Degree in Music Performance & Theory. He then went on to tour the world with some of the biggest names in R&B & pop music - most notably and recently, Van Morrison. For five years he served as conductor for the 60's pop hit recording group The Tymes (famed for their #1 worldwide hit "So Much in Love"). An early career highlight at the age of 20 was playing pit orchestra with Sammy Davis Jr. in Las Vegas under his long-time conductor/pianist George Rhodes. Kenny has also had the honor of playing with five inductees of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

Kenny's touring credits include Sly & The Family Stone,The Delfonics, The Three Degrees, Major Harris, Billy Paul, Phyllies Intruders, The Blue Notes, The Soul Survivors, Danny & The Juniors, The Coasters (Cornell Gunter), Jewel Akens, The Marvelettes (Gladys Horton), Johnny Tillotson, Phil Driscoll, Jock Bartley (Firefall), Justin Guarini (American Idol), & Grammy-winning country star Billy Dean.

Kenny was a record producer for the late Linda Creed Publishing Co. from 1988-2007,  producing her previously unreleased catalogue of work. Creed, perhaps best known for writing "The Greatest Love Of All," wrote more than 20 gold and platinum hits for The Stylistics, The Spinners, Whitney Houston, George Benson, Johnny Mathis, Dionne Warwick, Teddy Pendergrass, and many more.

As a music teacher, Kenny derives a great sense of enjoyment and fulfillment from sharing his gift with other aspiring musicians. He is passionate about the fundamentals; just as you wouldn't build a house without the right foundation, it's imperative that students understand basic theory in order to play music. Kenny is a wonderful fit for any student with an interest in pursuing a career in professional music, but his main goal is simply for every student to enjoy lessons and grow in their passion for music.

In addition to teaching private lessons to students of many different ages and skill levels, Kenny also continues to work as an active performing musician, frequently requested for gigs and events. You can see and hear Kenny's playing on most weekday afternoons at Von Maur department store in Alpharetta's North Point Mall.
