Voice, Piano, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Guitar
With a vocal performance degree in Musical Theatre from the University of Georgia, teaching certification from Georgia State, National Board Certification, ESOL certification, Gifted certification, and administrative certification, and over 25 years of professional teaching experience, Ms. Hankins can offer students a diverse range of instructional experiences. She has lived in the Atlanta area since elementary school, performing with school and church groups locally and in Europe and Canada throughout high school. She has also performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus, the Atlanta Choral Guild, the Atlanta Community Symphony Orchestra, and gospel music artists. An ordained musician at Metro City Church in Atlanta, she is currently the vocal coach for two-time Grammy Award winner and music icon Karyn White, supporting her successful career relaunch.
In addition to vocal studies, Ms. Hankins is also a professional flutist and woodwind doubler. She studied under Dr. Ronald Waln on flute and Sam Skelton on saxophone. Her classical voice studies were under Charlotte Reinke. She is a skilled improviser and piano accompanist, and has mastered intermediate-level piano repertoire.
Sharing her love of music-making while caring for the music maker, student goals and interests are incorporated into the presentation of lesson concepts and song choices. Ms. Hankins is comfortable with many genres of music, from classical to R&B to pop, and has the specific technical skills required to produce the right sound for each style. A typical lesson includes a warm-up, music theory work, and vocal or instrumental technique, with selections from music repertoire to support new ideas in both technique and theory. Students are directed to watch or listen to examples of master performances on their instrument. She strives to be both fun and knowledgeable in her lessons with students.
