Shantá L. Johnson is a native of Atlanta, GA, who has recently returned to the area after living in Chicago, IL. Johnson completed her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at Northern Illinois University in 2014.
Many of Johnson's career highlights have involved the George Gershwin opera Porgy and Bess. In 2014, she participated in the ensemble as a first alto for the Princeton Festival's production. She went on to sing the role of Strawberry Woman for a historical performance at the 2016 Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC. Most recently, she sang in Atlanta Opera's 2020 production. Her other professional appearances have been with Opera Cleveland, singing with the chorus for the Puccini opera Tosca.
Johnson has studied and sung various operatic roles via her studies from Clark Atlanta University, Cleveland Institute of Music, Mannes College, and Northern Illinois University. She has worked in various churches as a staff singer, including Disciples of Christ churches, Baptist churches, and a cantoring position in Newman Catholic Church in Dekalb, IL.
Johnson is happy and eager to share her talents in every way that she can. In addition to singing, she has several years of piano experience, including teaching lessons to beginners. She has also played in the marching and symphonic bands for Clark Atlanta University and Benjamin Elijah Mays High School as a clarinetist.
