Violin, Viola, Cello
Christopher Thurstone started playing the violin at the age of ten. At thirteen, he won first place in the NCMTA Junior Division by performing Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3. In high school, he toured Europe as Concertmaster of the East Chapel Hill High School Orchestra and performed with the All-State Symphony Orchestra.
Christopher has performed in numerous summer music festivals, including Interlochen, the Hot Springs Music Festival, the Brevard Music Center, and the International Violin Symposium at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He has also coached as a counselor and performed as a soloist at the International Music Institute and Festival in Maryland, the Duke University Strings School Summer Camps, and the ACT Music Performance Program in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Christopher’s principal teachers and influences have been Dr. Christos Galileas, Dr. Fabian Lopez, Dorothy Kitchen, and Stephanie Swisher.
In 2010, Christopher was offered positions in the Durham and Fayetteville Symphony Orchestras.
He received his bachelor’s degree in violin performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and his master’s degree in orchestral performance, along with an Artist Certificate, from Georgia State University.
After serving as Concertmaster of the GSU Symphony, Christopher now teaches violin, viola, and cello to students of all ages. He also performs with local chamber musicians and orchestras, including the Rome Symphony, Huntsville Symphony, LaGrange Symphony, Chattanooga Symphony, Macon Pops, and the Atlanta Pops.
