Nicholas Mays is an accomplished musician whose journey began in the 6th grade Concert band as a percussionist and flourished throughout his high school years. With a mastery of instruments including snare drum, drumset, and 4-mallets, Nicholas consistently earned a place in the All-State Honor Band, reflecting his dedication and talent.
Following his passion, Nicholas pursued higher education with a music scholarship to Valdosta State University, where he completed his B.A in Music Education in 2017. During his tenure, he immersed himself in a diverse array of musical ensembles including Drumline, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Orchestra, showcasing his versatility and commitment to musical excellence.
Nicholas's journey led him to march with the Alliance DrumCorps and participate in the renowned Atlanta Falcons Drumline, further solidifying his reputation as a skilled percussionist and performer. In 2019, he relocated to Atlanta, where he embarked on a career path as an educator and arranger, contributing his expertise to various Drum-Lines and Percussion Ensembles in the Henry County area.
Driven by an insatiable passion for music, Nicholas expanded his repertoire by mastering the guitar and bass, captivating audiences with his performances as a freelance artist. His talents have seen him share stages with notable artists such as Myia B. Music and Raury, while also contributing his skills as a lead guitarist and drummer to three distinct bands.
Nicholas attributes much of his success to the influential guidance of mentors like Percussion Instructor Aaron Savage and Marcus Hawking, whose teaching styles and methodologies continue to inspire his own approach to music education. His dedication to teaching stems from a profound belief in the transformative power of music, finding fulfillment in sharing the gift of musicianship with others.
As an educator, Nicholas emphasizes the importance of commitment and effort, encouraging his students to show up and give their best.
