Charles Haraway has been a choral director, conductor, and performer for the past 30 years. Mr. Haraway has been in high demand as a vocal coach and choral clinician since relocating to the Atlanta area in June 2023.
Mr. Haraway grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, the home of The Blues, rock and roll, and early Country music. Charles grew up in this rich environment, playing music with his family and participating in various bands, musical theater, and choral music.
Charles completed his bachelor's degree in music education in 1994 at the University of Mississippi and his master's degree in music education at the University of Southern Mississippi. He then became a full-time high school teacher in Mississippi and Tennessee for the next 10 years.
In 2002, Mr. Haraway moved to South Carolina for graduate work in conducting, history, and orchestration at the University of South Carolina, where he became Chorusmaster for the USC Opera, Director of the Madrigal Ensemble, and a lecturer of music history and musical appreciation. In 2003, Charles accepted the position of Director of Music at Trinity United Methodist Church and directed ensembles, orchestras, and the contemporary praise band for the next 20 years.
During his long career, Charles Haraway's ensembles have performed at the Washington National Cathedral, the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN, the Germantown Performing Arts Center, and a 10-year concert series at the Piccolo Spoleto festival in Charleston, SC. He has also released two albums with his band as lead singer and guitarist.
Mr. Haraway is currently the Director of Music at Conyers Presbyterian Church and believes that anyone can sing with proper fundamentals and good old-fashioned hard work. Mr. Haraway strives to make rehearsals and lessons fun and engaging to encourage practice and achievement. Mr Haraway enjoys living in the big city of Atlanta very much and is excited to start teaching students!
